In-8 gr. (mm. 272x203), 5 parti in 2 volumi (lultima parte contiene un Supplemento), mezza pergamena (risguardi rifatti), fregi e titolo oro su due tasselli al dorso, pp. VI,(2),III,56;344; (4),246,(2). Ricco apparato iconografico composto da 33 tavole litografiche di carattere anatomico, raffiguranti teste e artigli e 325 magnifiche litografie (di cui 3 ripiegate) di uccelli, eseguite da Oudart e colorate a mano, raffiguranti molte specie esotiche. Prima edizione di questo bellissimo e raro atlante dellornitologo francese, Louis Pierre Vieillot /(1748-1830) che descrisse per la prima volta un grande numero di uccelli, specialmente quelli che incontrò durante il tempo passato nelle Indie Occidentali e in Nordamerica, e 26 dei generi da lui descritti sono ancora in uso. Fu uno dei primi ornitologi a studiare i cambiamenti del piumaggio (mutazioni) ed anche uno tra i primi a studiare gli uccelli vivi, piuttosto che le loro spoglie.Cf. Nissen IVB 960 (cita 301 tavole colorate e 33 anatomiche).Originally planned to give colored figures of all the birds in the galleries of the Paris Museum, accompanied by brief general accounts of each, Six livraisons were issued thus, with 24 plates by Oudart and with anonymous text which is probably also by Oudart since the dedication is signed by him. This original matter forms the variously paged text and the unnumbered plates at the close of Vol. II. The enormity of this project caused its abandonment and the substitution of a more modest program, with the writing of the text assigned to Vieillot, and livraisons 7-82 carried the work to completion (cfr. Zimmer,II, p. 655-656). Lesecutore delle tavole è Paul Louis Oudart (1796- ?), français. Peintre doiseaux, paysages, lithographe, dessinateur. Il fut élève de G. Van Spaendonck. Il figura au Salon de Paris en 1819 par des sujets représentant des oiseaux (così Benezit,X, p. 451).Buon esemplare.
